We all need coaching feedback in some form or fashion. Without it, we never really have a good handle on how we are doing. Everyday there are opportunities available to get some sort of feedback, whether talking with a friend, a co-worker, a family member, or someone that is just talkative, like your gas station attendant.
In order to start the process, we have to have an open mind. No matter how good or how bad the feedback may be, we have to be ready to accept the answers supplied after the questions are asked. The questions provide a personal benchmark to begin improvement if necessary, or decipher the answers using the input to the best of our advantage. It provides us a measuring device. If I can apply a numeric value to the feedback, then I am able to know just how much improvement can be made to get better at the specified task. It also provides me an improvement goal. Whether in small steps or giant strides, improvement can only be attained by having a good program for feedback.
I always want to know how I’m doing. Fortunately, a few people tell me from time to time both the good and the bad. It provides me balance for the jobs at hand and the ongoing progress of improvement. Take the time to seek feedback that will help you improve in the vital areas of your life. Without it, we are destined for a life of mediocrity.
