Calmness in the Storm

Calmness comes from within. But as an emotion, the act of being calm comes from having less stress in your life. When we think of calmness, we think of people acting cool when under high stress situations. Others may think of parents remaining calm in the face of unruly children who are screaming at the top of their lungs on an airplane.

Music or background noise often makes people more calm because it reminds them of a more nostalgic time through emotions experienced and associated with the music. Heavy metal music isn't in that category for me.

Meditation is suppose to produce calmness for the person meditating. I recently had a doctor ask me if I meditated on a daily basis to which I responded "I ruminate, not meditate." He didn't get the joke.

Calmness does not have to be associated with tranquility. It can simply be the act of enjoying a cold drink on a hot afternoon,or watching the waves break at the beach.

Whatever makes you calm, find it and exploit it as often as you can. Your life, and those around you, will benefit everyday.
