Being a Patriot
"Patriotism is not short, frenzied outbursts of emotion, but the tranquil and steady dedication of a lifetime." - Adlai Stevenson
Being a patriot is not something I sit around and ponder when the room is quiet. It comes up when I see the flag, a soldier, or a parade. I have never seen as many flags as I have after the September 11th attacks on our country and I do wonder from time to time where that emotion that we felt so hotly has gone? Has time quieted the hurt and caused us to forget the tragedy that befell our country on that day?
It is true that time heals most wounds. But wouldn't it be wonderful if we could feel that patriotic spirit everyday and not just when the symbols of our country and our pride come rushing forward. Many choose to be hold their patriotic fervor close to their vest while others simply shout it from the tallest building whenever they have the chance.
How ever we choose to celebrate out patriotism, let it be regarded as personal and as a realized opportunity to do so; that so many have paid such a high price for those of us to have our freedom. There will never be enough words to express our thanks for this unselfish gift we so often simply take for granted.
