The Emotion of Emptiness
"Existence was given us for action. Our worth is determined by the good deed we do, rather than by the fine emotions we feel."
--George MacDonald,Scottish author, poet and minister
When people describe feeling empty inside, they are feeling a sense of loss by not having been fulfilled in some way that was anticipated. It is a vacancy of emotion. No feeling other than blankness, a void that needs to be filled.
It leads to the question "what will fill this void space within us?" Once that has been determined then a positive action can occur that starts to displace the feeling of emptiness. We have to ask ourselves if the positive action is the correct one, or the one that will provide the most fulfillment the quickest. It may just be a series of small actions that over time fill our well of emptiness to a point that it can disappear from our heart and head.
People do not plan to feel empty, but it occurs with all of us from time to time. You can control it by channeling good deeds, habits and actions that will fill your own personal well, or the well of others that you know.
