Coaching Life's Missed Opportunities

So often when talking with people the topic of missed opportunities is brought into the conversation. Oftentimes referred to as "opportunity moments", we face a decision that provides a choice between alternatives, possibly producing two completely different outcomes. So often, because we have so many choices that are available to us, we feel overwhelmed. The decision becomes much more difficult to make because the number of choices can be so vast. This is part of the downside of the abundant choice: confusion which leads to indecision. Each new option adds to the list of trade-offs, and these trade-offs have psychological consequences. The necessity of making trade-offs alters how we feel about the decisions we face; more important, it affects the level of satisfaction we experience from the decisions we ultimately make.

Missed opportunities are not necessarily bad. They may create other options that would not have materialized had we not passed on the original opportunity. Embrace those opportunity moments. They may provide you with the dessert in everyday living.
