Life and Habits

A habit developed while growing up in the south makes me speak to people I don’t know and pass on the street or in the hall at work. Some people find this surprising, others find it as threatening, while others just look and walk on about their business without returning the greeting wondering what is with that guy.It is a form of communication that gives a little something but requires nothing but a little individual effort. Many people tend to think that giving has to be done using large gestures. Those that do believe this miss the simple opening of the heart that can be practiced virtually anywhere by anyone.

Little gifts can cause a domino effect. It can be seen by those that work in the soup kitchens, by those that pull a few dollars out of their pocket to share with those less fortunate, by those that simply offer a smile and a salutation. There is no praise to be received from these small acts of giving and generally no one sees. Without simple acts of giving, the world would be a cold place. Break through to an unprotected heart and you too, will find commonality of purpose and what separates us as a species, the simple act of giving.

“See life the way it is. Don’t kid yourself.” - Jack Welch, Past Chairman and CEO, General Electric.

“A habit cannot be tossed out the window; it must be coaxed down the stairs a step at a time." - Mark Twain

“First we make our habits, then our habits make us." - Charles Noble

“The victory of success is half won when one gains the habit of setting goals and achieving them. Even the most tedious chore will become endurable as you parade through each day convinced that every task, no matter how menial or boring, brings you closer to fulfilling your dreams." - Og Mandino
